Sweet orange oil is extracted through cold expression from the rind of the fruit of Citrus Sinensis, the sweet orange tree. The therapeutic value of the orange was first recognized in Ancient China, where the dried peel for centuries has been used as part of traditional Chinese medicine. It is the rind of the fruit that has the greatest medicinal value being used primarily to stimulate digestion and relieve spasm. In the 18th century, Europe began using oranges to alleviate nervous disorders, heart problems, colic, asthma, and melancholy.
From an energetic perspective, sweet orange oil has the ability to unblock and circulate stagnant Qi-energy mainly when it accumulates in the Liver, Stomach and Intestines. Sweet orange oil is one of the best essential oils for the digestive system. It helps with abdominal distention and pain, poor appetite, indigestion, flatulence, nausea and vomiting. It can also be effective for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.
Other benefits of sweet orange oil include relieving nauseous headaches, tension and insomnia. Because of its warm, sunny, sweet aroma it conveys joy and positivity which helps to ease tension and frustration.
This is a great oil to diffuse while working. It can help with nervous tension, sadness, and can also improve the aroma of a stale room. Use sweet orange oil to help you take a more relaxed approach to difficult tasks and to encourage adaptability. It may even help you feel more optimistic and instill a more positive attitude. No wonder this is considered a “happy” oil.
